Back from Africa and Europe

Thu Jul 21, 2005, 10:20 PM
I made it back with no diseases. YAY! I took plenty of pictures. I took so many that my friends and boyfriend were making fun of me for taking so many pictures. Mostly because I'd take more than one picture of the same thing. I did that so that I'd get the best possible angle. I know there are people out there who do the same thing. Anyway, I have to edit them still but after I do I shall post them up.

Africa was amazing. I only went to Morocco but it was a wonderful experience. Just one thing, I suggest that ladies go with a guy. I know that I wouldn't have gone with my dad I would have just stayed in the hotel room. I got plenty of marriage offers. I'd have to say the best one was from this guy who sold carpets. He offered my parents 5,000 camels for me to stay in Fes with him. I told him I wasn't ready for marriage and that I was planning on going to college. He said he could wait till after I went to college. There were other guys who wanted me to stay there also. I'd have to say that the creepiest guy was one in a hotel in Ouarzazate. He was a waiter in the hotel and ended up coming and knocking on my door at midnight and when I didn't open the door he went to my window and started knocking on the door. The following morning he wrote me a note in Spanish (because he had heard my dad and I speaking in Spanish) which basically said that he had been wanting to speak to me but didn't have an opportunity to, and that I was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen and wanted my email and phone number. I gave him an email that I don't use so that he'd leave me alone. That wasn't enough though cause later he came by to try and get my number. Thankfully my parents were with me and he couldn't come up and ask. That was about the creepiest thing that happened.

While in Ouarzazate we tried to visit the movie sets, where "The Mummy" was filmed and many other movies but they wouldn't let us in because they were filming the "Ten Commandments." I was sad because I really wanted to see the Mummy set. I did however get some pictures of the set from far away.

We visited an old school friend of mine in Switzerland. Her house in the mountains reminded me of "The Sound of Music." It was absolutely beautiful. The only thing I hated were the bees. One of the little bastards stung me too when we were eating lunch. Thankfully it wasn't a bad sting. We also went to Lugano to visit Franklin College. It was very nice and our tour guide, Austin, was very nice. After staying in Switzerland we went to Italy where we stayed in Venice and Milano. The last time I visited Venice was about 5 years ago. There were so many more tourist this time. And also, a lot more water. The tide rises more and the water also comes up through the drains so that basically all of Piazza Sar Marco is flooded by 5/6 pm. It's still beautiful though. Milano was fun too. The first time I had been there. I'd have to say that one of the best parts of the trips was walking everywhere. It made me feel so energetic and I also lost some weight. I wish I could walk more here but it's impossible. There are too many highways. If the cities were closer together and everything wasn't so separated then maybe everyone could walk more and there wouldn't be so many overweight people.

Well, that's about all. One month from today is my 18th birthday! YAY! I'll try and post up my pictures as soon as I can.
